Losing America

Losing America
In oratory that recalls the old Roman senate, Senate and with the passion of the Founding Fathers, the distinguished senator from West Virginia--who is not running for anything--draws a line in the sand Senate and says to the George W. Bush administration, Stop! Senator Robert C. Byrd, an octogenarian, has seen many presidents come Senate and go, Senate and he always engaged in the political give Senate and take, whether it was gentlemanly or down Senate and dirty. But it is the George W. Bush administration of the 2000 election Senate and post-9/11 that gets his billy goat. They are wrong, he says, on Afghanistan Senate and Iraq, wrong on homeland security, Senate and wrong on how they see the American people. He charges them with incredible naivete, a penchant for secrecy, Senate and a way of working that evinces, to him, a disturbing arrogance. What seems to bother Senator Byrd the most is that the usual checks Senate and balances provided by the Congress Senate and the Supreme Court seem to have been circumvented somehow. Byrd relates the recent history of Congress, showing how the budget was moved through with unseemly swiftness, in violation of Senate rules, Senate and how many members of the Senate were perhaps cowed into voting for the Patriot Act Senate and other 9/11 bills. Byrd includes eight engaging Senate and relevant speeches--with titles like We Stand Passively Mute Senate and The Emperor has No Clothes--that he delivered from the Senate floor beginning in May, 2001, that address these concerns Senate and convey the general theme that the American people are being shoved aside.
